At the age of 10, Rodrigo Lana was already sharing his childhood games with his musical studies. In Carmo do Paranaíba, his hometown, he began his dive into this world of knowledge and sound experiences. Years later he moved to Belo Horizonte, where he completed the course of piano extension and musical perception (Fundação de Educação Artística, UFMG). In 2007, he joined the ESMU (UEMG Music College), where he graduated as a Bachelor in Piano.

Some important names of the music, such as André Mehmari (arrangement classes with the group Diapasão), Leandro Braga (piano in popular music), Nestor Lombida (popular music) and Rafael Martini (orchestration, arrangement and composition) were part of his development. Seeking refinement and inspiration in various fields, he also studied piano interpretation with several teachers: Mirta Herrera (Italy), Fany Solter (Germany), Luis Senise, Flávio Augusto, Viviane Taliberti and Abel Moraes.

In 2004, he was the founder of the instrumental music group Diapasão, in which he acted as a pianist, composer and arranger. With the group he recorded 2 albums and participated in important festivals, such as Jazz a la Calle – Uruguay; Mostra da Nova Música Instrumental Mineira, with participation of Benjamim Taubkin and Décio Ramos (UAKTI); Savassi Jazz Festival; Sesc Instrumental Brasil – SP; Festival of Music and Sunday Music Project.

Since 2006, he teaches piano and musical perception. In class, he focuses on encouraging students to understand music as a global language, free from prejudices such as “scholar” and “popular”. He was awarded in important contests: BDMG Young Musician 2008 – erudite music; best performer of Brazilian music at the Ituiutaba National Piano Competition – Ricardo Tacuchian 2008; BDMG Young Instrumentalist 2009 – popular music; having also been a finalist for BDMG Instrumental Music 2009 – compositions and arrangement. The year 2017 was remarkable because it generated two new works. The first of them was the EP “Quebra-Cabeça” (Puzzle), first solo work of the pianist. In it are present compositions and interpretations, built on the piano and also on digital sounds, fruit of much research and experimentation. The digital and analog world intersect in a beautiful harmony of elements. The other work was “Canções Para Abreviar Distâncias: uma viagem pela língua portuguesa” (Songs to Shorten Distances: a journey through the Portuguese language), album of the singer and songwriter Isabella Bretz, who produced together. In this work, Rodrigo played a crucial role, participating in compositions, arrangements, recording, mixing, mastering and musical production. After its realization, Rodrigo followed in tour to Portugal (mainland and Azores) and Cape Verde. In 2018 the project landed in Iceland. New concerts and activities are planned for the next months.

Rodrigo uses the piano in a peculiar way: he reproduces melodies in his own way, gives life to the sounds he creates and always presents the percussive character of the instrument to the listener, without losing his delicacy. He also dedicates himself to other skills and tasks that circulate music, such as sound, recording, mixing and production.
